Make Extra Spending Money in time For Holiday Shopping

With the holidays just a few short months away, now is the time to try to get extra cash to spend on your friends, family and maybe even youself. You'll hear all over the news to try and NOT use your credit cards, as interest rates will kill you later. It can be so hard to decide how much to spend on people, and what you can afford without going broke doing it. So what can you do, in order to make that extra money you may need for the holidays? Follow our tips below to help you find that "hidden" cash that you can use now to make your holidays merry and bright.

1. Clean out your house - Look around your house/garage. Do you have anything you don't use anymore, doesn't fit, given as a gift but you didn't want it to begin with? Sell it on eBay. Take your item, do a search on eBay and see what similiar items are going for now. You can do a short 3 day sale, or a 7 day sale, depending on how quickly you need the cash. Take good quality digital photos of your item, and make sure your description covers everything. If your items are quite large, and too expensive to ship, offer a "pick up only" option, to lure those in your area to bid on your item. Be realistic about the price as well. If you start the bid too high, you may end up getting no bids at all. Many times a lower starting bid will start a bidding war in the end between people who have gotten the "auction itch" and now want your item regardless of the price. When I sell on eBay, I prefer buyers who either send me a money order, or PayPal only. It gives you better options in the end.

2. Organize a neighborhood yard sale - Get you and your neighbors together to have a commuinty yard sale. Advertise in the paper for either free, or cheaply, and then more people are likley to come if they see that there are multiple families participating as compared to just one. Make it worth their while. Have coffee and donuts available for the early birds. If they want to talk you down, bargain with them. Remember - you are trying to make extra cash so every little bit counts.

3. Cut out buying coffee/lunch for a month - If you like to have that $4.00 cafe latte every morning, and lunch at the local spot, try bringing it from home for a month, and see how much you can save. Put the money you would've spent that week in a jar. By the end of the month you could have anywhere between $80 - 200 dollars at the end of the month, depending on how much you were spending.

4. Offer your services - If you bake well, or are crafty, tell your friends that you'll make those school cookies, or teacher's gifts for a nominal fee. Some parents may even like it if you delivered those items as well, which you could add to your cost.

5. Look in the paper for temp jobs - if you have the time, perhaps only on the weekend, see if local stores are offering seasonal jobs that would give you extra spending money. Even better would be an employee discount, where you could use your extra cash for gitf buying.

There are many other ways for you to come up with extra spending money for the holidays. Don't let the credit card companies lure you into thinking that you can spend up to your limit. You can easily and creatively have a great holiday season without breaking the bank. Good luck to you all!

Shopping For The Right Shoe

There will never be one shoe for everyone even if you will be using it for the same purpose. The first consideration should be, how will I use it or for what purpose will I use it. Many types of shoes are manufactured. Will I be running, walking, playing soccer or just want a comfortable shoe.

When purchasing a new pair of shoes many items must be considered. Not every brand of shoes fits everyone. The toe box may be too small for your foot or it may run too narrow. If you are a runner you will want a pair of very light weight and flexible shoes. The surface you will run on must be considered. How thick is the sole. Is the toe box comfortable. Is it wide enough does the heel slip? If you are a runner, the inside padding needs to be thick enough for comfort.

The heel should fit snug around the heel of your foot. Is the shoe stable or does it roll to one side or the other. As you run is the toe box comfortable and not jamming your toes to the end of the shoe. The arch should coincide with your arch. However running shoes usually don't have much arch support.

Always have both feet measured when buying. Your feet change and shoes also change. Shoes that are too short will cause blisters on your toes and cause more serious problems as you age. You will need at least i/2 inch at the end. Try on with the socks that you will be wearing with the shoes. Buy your shoes near the end of the day as your feet may well slightly during the day especially if you have been running. Speaking of the arches, if you have a high arch you may need some arch support. There are many over the counter arch support. if you need a great fit see your podiatrist.

The life span of the shoe should be considered. Usually a runner or walking shoe should have 450-500 miles. After a year it is good to think about a new pair even if they do not have that much time. The glue gets old, your feet may change also.

Don't wait until shoes are on sale and buy several pair. AS I pointed out before your feet may change sizes or the glue tends to dry just laying in the box. I can definitely vouch for that, I have 2-3 pair that do not fit now. It is good to have another pair to change out every other day.

When walking or running there are rules we should for our safety and our health.

Drink plenty of water, drink a glass before and after your run or walk. Drink at least a cup every hour if you or endurance running or walking. If you are a large person, it may take more for you.

Do Not drink any alcoholic drinks or caffeine. before, during or after your walk. These drinks dehydrates you too much. If walking in a marathon use electrolyte sports drinks.

As well as comfort shoes, wear comfort clothing in layers very light weight. Walking or running at night be dangerous if not on a track. Wear a reflective type clothing or reflectors on your shoes for your protection. Watch the weather you may need rain proof clothing.

Look straight ahead and take deep breaths, it helps you relax. Always remember good posture. Your arms should be at 90 degrees and not hanging at your side.

Foot exercises may help to keep your feet in shape. They will also help you warm up for your run or walk. You need your run or walk shoes on. Stand on a ledge or stair and rock or bend back on the heel several times. Write the alphabet in the air with your foot. I personally think this helps me. It strengthens the ankles. I keep my walk shoes on during this exercise. Also standing on your toes rocking up and back helps.

These are just a few ideas to assist you prepare for your walk or run. The exercises could also strengthen your ankles for high-heels or low heels. It also exercises your calf muscles.

As we age we should never quit walking, if we do it is very hard to get back into your routine. We all need some exercise.

Thank you for considering my thoughts and ideas. I have been a walker or power walker for 30-35 years. I have found that I think better and clear my mind if I walk. It's a great to try and solve problems.

Dog Pet Bed - Your Dog Needs A Pet Bed

Why is it important to give your favorite four-legged friend a place of his own? Your dogs bed will benefit your dogs sleep, comfort, and health for years to come. Many pet owners think that a dog bed is an optional item. However, having a pet bed is an essential item. Dogs spend a good part of every day sound asleep. The comfort and health of your dog depends on a quality sleep. There are many benefits for you and your dog.

Security

Dogs can feel anxious especially when their owner is away. Providing your pet with a special place to call his own will give him a sense of security. It also provides a private area for your dog. Your dog will love the fact that he has a place that is just for him, and in return he might be less likely to curl up on your furniture or bed.

Health

Just like humans, dogs appreciate comfort also. Older dogs as well as younger dogs can start to suffer from joint pain, arthritis and hip problems. Lack of quality sleep can also cause an unwillingness to go for walks and exercise. Make sure to buy the right size dog bed for your best friend. Big dogs need large dog beds! A dog beds soft, comfortable cushions feel just as great on a dogs joints as a mattress or body pillow provides comfort and support for humans. A typical dog bed elevates the animal above the hard ground, supports essential joints and provides a degree of warmth. You might also want to look at orthopedic dog beds.

Warmth

Dogs will benefit from the extra layers of warmth and insulation off the bare floor especially during the night and cold winter months. Dog pillow beds or dog bed mats also provide essential support from a hard cold floor. Although dogs will sleep on a floor, it is often uncomfortable for them. Consider how you would feel sleeping on the cold floor with nothing but a blanket. This is usually the reason that they sneak onto the furniture the minute you leave the house and because it smells like you. Most dogs will sleep at the foot or side of their owners bed, on a favorite blanket or cushion placed in a warm part of the room away from drafts.

Position

Should your dog be allowed to sleep in your bed, with you? Probably not, where your dog sleeps is important to their emotional and physical health, as well as to your familys. Some animal behaviorists say letting your dog sleep with you is a bad idea and sometimes upset the chain of command because the dog may get delusions of grandeur and dominance problems can arise. A dog bed lets your dog know where he is sleeping. You might consider and your dog may enjoy, several dog beds in other rooms where the family comes together.

Protection

A dog bed will provide protection for your furniture. When your dog is sleeping on your furniture, it affects the appearance and condition of your furniture, and as we mentioned earlier it affects your dogs joints where he jumps up and down off high furniture. Not to mention bothersome pet hair on the furniture. For this reason, youll definitely want a cover that be removed from the mattress, and that is 100% machine washable. It should also be durable enough to deal with sharp claws, and stain resistant.

In conclusion, your dog will be spending an awful lot of time in his or her bed, so its important that you select the right one. So remember, when buying a pet bed for your dog, you need to take numerous things into consideration: your dogs breed, dogs age (puppy, adult, senior), dogs size, dogs health and where you plan on using the bed. Buying the right kind of bed and maintaining it properly can go a long way to your dogs health and happiness, and maybe even your own.

How to Be Comfortable When Starting a New Job

It is estimated that we, as average Americans, have between eight and ten jobs in our lifetimes. While many of these job changes may be for positive matters a more challenging career, better advancement, more lucrative pay the fact remains that starting a new job can be one of the biggest stresses in life. The reasons for this vary. For some of us, learning the technicalities, the ins and outs, of a new job may be the biggest burden. For others, learning the way around the building how to get to the coffee pot and the restroom - may prove difficult. And, for some, simply learning where the new office is located may be the biggest inconvenience.

However, for the majority of new jobbers, chances are the greatest intimidation factor, the one that causes the most anxiety, is simply meeting new people. Walking into a job where everyone seems to know each other patting each other on the back and asking about little Johnnys soccer game can be overwhelming for the person who knows no one. It causes a fear resembling high school, as the newcomer wonders who they will sit with at lunch. Though this may seem like an occasion drowning in discomfort, there are a few things that can be done to make it as smooth a transition as possible.

Dress the Part

Its hard to gauge what kind of clothes to wear on the first day of the job. While many offices are listed as business casual, the term casual leaves a lot to be interpreted. For some of us, casual may be wearing slacks and a button down shirt, for others it may be wearing jeans and a t-shirt. Still, for a few, casual may simply mean wearing to work what was worn to bed.

For a new job, its best to err on the side of caution and prepare to be overdressed rather than underdressed. Wearing a suit while everyone else is wearing slacks and blouses will go over much better than wearing jeans while everyone else is wearing a suit.

Dont One up People

There seems to be an unwritten rule laced within the insecurities of each person, a rule that tells us to try to impress people when we are nervous. While this may sometimes serve the intended purpose, more often than not, it backfires. Take for instance this example: as a newcomer overhears an established coworker say that they just had their first paper published in a medical journal, the newcomer steps in to speak of their two articles previously published. While the person who is new is just trying to look good in front of coworkers, trying to impress them can come across more as arrogant, and a little desperate. To make matters worse, when the impressing is tagged onto a coworkers own boasting, the newcomer looks like someone out to one-up everyone else. This, ultimately, results in not impressing others, and just depressing yourself.

Ask Questions

People like to talk about themselves, about their kids, about the time they landed a merger between two giant corporations. Showing interest in a coworker will make them interested in you: people are often their own favorite subjects. If youre having trouble mingling with others, simply pick something out about them and ask questions. Point to a picture on their desk and ask if thats their spouse, ask them where they grew up or how it is they landed a job at the company. And, if youre having trouble with an aspect of your job, ask questions about it. People are often more than willing to share their knowledge; most people will jump at the chance to convey their own intelligence.

Be Professional

Everyone is not professional at their job at one point or another. If you work somewhere long enough, a few flawed moments are sure to creep in. People show up late, or put their legs on top of the desk, stretching out as they type a memo. People take too long making personal phone calls or spend an hour in the bathroom talking about their coworkers botched perm job. People take an extra long lunch, sneaking back into the office when their boss isnt working, or take a ream of computer paper home for their personal use. While everyone is guilty of being unprofessional at times, dont use these times at the beginning of your job. You see, we build to that.

Take People Up on Invitations

Jobs are often filled with the opportunities to be social. From a happy hour to a lunch outing, from a Tupperware party to a company softball game, behind every cubicle wall there is the ability to get to know your coworkers. While you may hold onto the notion that you are at a job to work and not at a job to make friends, its proven that those who enjoy their coworkers enjoy their job much more. So, when coworkers invite you to after hour get-togethers, take them up on it. You dont have to show up to every outing, or be the life of the party, donning the proverbial lamp shade on your head, but attend and get to know the people with whom you work. Show them that you are a team player both in the office and outside of it.

Starting a new job can be uncomfortable, but its something everyone goes through. Heeding the above advice and just relaxing can make it easier. If that doesnt work, keep this in mind: the person at the company who has worked there the longest the person who knows everyone, who remembers peoples birthdays, who gives the toast at the company Christmas party even they were once a new employee.

Licking Paws Itchy Ears

Dogs who lick their paws a lot and have very itchy ears may be doing this because they are reacting to grains in their diet. (As always check with your vet).

Here are two great recipes for dog treats that are grain free.

Cheese Biscuits

3 cups garbanzo bean flour, plus extra needed for rolling

1 cup cheddar cheese

cup powdered milk

2 tablespoons safflower oil

cup warm water

Grated parmesan cheese for topping

Pre Heat oven to 375

Mix flour, powdered milk, and cheddar cheese. Add oil and water. Stir into dough. Add some more flour (up to cup) until dough rolls easily. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and roll to to inch thickness. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Store in refrigerator in airtight container.

Liver Crunchies

1 pound ( 2 cups ) beef liver.

2 eggs

1 cups garbanzo bean flour.

cup cheddar cheese shredded

Pre Heat oven 300

Puree liver with eggs in food processor. Add mixture to flour in large bowl and stir in cheese. Turn onto baking sheet covered in grease or non-stick foil. Bake for 25 minutes. Remove from oven and cool, peel off baking sheet and cut into treat size. For soft treats refrigerate treats, for crunchy treats return to oven and bake at 150 for three hours until treats are hard and crunchy. Twice-baked treats can be stored at room temperature.

How Do I Puppy Proof My Home?

If there's one lesson that I've learned well as a dog owner, it's this: Before bringing that new puppy home, you want to puppy proof your home.

Here's how you can do just that.

Identify and remove any toxic plants that could effect your puppy

Many plants that are common to our gardens and homes (including the dead leaves) can be poisonous to our dogs. Here is the ASPCA listing which is an excellent listing and resource: Toxic Plants

Think about toxic human foods the yummy things that can kill your puppy!

There are human foods that are very toxic to dogs. Chief among them are onions, chocolate, grapes and raisins. It is very important that you make any children in your house AND neighborhood aware of this. For a complete list go to: Bad Food List

Third, here are ten things to do the day before that new bundle of fir arrives.

Close doors or set up baby gates to rooms you don't want the puppy to get into. Puppies are naturally curious and will explore. It is best to keep them confined to one room or part of a room, and gradually increase their range.

Get all plant, small pets (gerbils, guinea pigs, fish, lizards, etc.), electrical cords and curtain/shade pulls out of puppy range. Covers for electrical cords are advisable.

Keep kids' toys picked up and out of puppy reach. Puppies do not know the difference between their toys and your daughter's brand new Barbie doll.

Remote controls and video game equipment (which are often used and left on the floor) needs to be put in a secure location away from a curious puppy.

Lift up your wastebaskets! Gross as it sounds, dogs love dirty tissues and other nasty things that are put in wastebaskets! It is like their own disgusting, nose level buffet. My adult dogs are five and ten years old and will still occasionally sneak things out of the wastebaskets.

Check your fencing make sure it goes completely to the ground. You would be amazed at how small a gap a puppy can fit through! In fact, I recommend keeping puppies tethered, even if the backyard is fenced, until they are fairly reliable on the recall.

The game of 'Catch the Puppy' is not a good game to be playing with your young puppy. You need to stay in control as much as possible.

Keep all medications and chemicals securely hidden. Dogs can counter cruise and a simple bottle of pain reliever consumed by a curious pup can have fatal consequences.

Remember, your puppy is going to grow! What may pass for puppy-proof today may not be adequate in another month or two. Be aware of your pup's ever increasing range and curiosity.

Bottom line is you have to be watching your puppy constantly. Any thing other than food that they chew and swallow has the potential to make them sick or, worse yet, kill them.

Don't forget the tail. Not all puppy damage is done by puppy chewing. Make sure all breakable items are above tail level. One good swipe with a happy tail and grandma's crystal vase is shattered.

Finally, have Poison Control Center information handy

If you think your puppy has been poisoned Call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center The telephone number is (888) 426-4435. There is a consultation fee for this service.

Use the ideas presented here to prepare your home for your new puppy.
